Tasks are simply scripts which carry out some function on your server. Examples are scripts which update a newsfeed, backup your site, or monitor a forum or guest book. A task could be something as simple as sending an email once a day to check for ISP filtering.

Many things which you do routinely to confirm that your web site is working properly can be automated to occur automatically. The scripts that do these tasks for you are usually created using perl or php.

Schedulyzer calls your tasks by accessing your server to 'trigger' them once a day or on a particular day of the week. In order to do this, you must create a script on your server and give it a name. The link or URL to your script is then added to the event database at Schedulyzer and executed on schedule. An example URL will look like this:
http://yourdomain.com/backup.php

If Schedulyzer can not access your task URL because the server is off-line or there is a spelling error in the URL, the task is automatically disabled for subsequent runs. To reactivate the task, correct the problem then access your account control panel to confirm.

Our free service does not allow precise control of the time of day for events. This method allows us to load balance the Schedulyzer server by distributing tasks throughout the day. If you need to run you task at a specific date and time, please consider an upgraded account.
